January 2016 In Review

Every month I will be documenting my income from all of my side hustles. As I am just starting out some (more like all) of these amounts will be very little or even nothing. In full future me style though I’m going to include things that I may not even be doing yet because I know that in the future these things will be bringing in an income.

Rideshare Income $380.21 Miles Driven 468 Time 18.7 hours

My minimum goal is $400, as you can see I was SO close to this, in fact I considered going out on days I typically don’t go out and drive to make up the difference. However, I was on vacation the last week of January, and wanted to spend time with family. The main purpose in life is not to make money but to enjoy life. The think I enjoy is spending time with my wife so even though I could have easily made the extra money to meet my goal I didn’t.

Agree, don’t agree I’m fine either way it was still a good month. It comes out to $20.33 an hour, after factoring in $0.20 a mile for expenses (someone help me out if they think that’s not enough) it still is $15.32 an hour. Whether you think that’s good money or not it’s more money than if I did nothing with that time which is probably what would have happened.

Real Estate Income $0.00

I am not a real estate agent but I’m 100% certain that before this year is done I will sell my first house. If you have any advice on this please let me know, I’m currently in the stages of deciding what school to go to (an online course) and am trying to save up the money to pay for everything in cash. I’m thinking by end of this month I will have the money saved up to pay for the course (most cost $200 to $300 from what I can tell). I will of course keep you all updated on this as time goes on.

Blog Income $0.00

Last month I put my first affiliate link on the blog, several of them in fact. And the result… nothing, I didn’t make a single sale. I’m not upset about it the blog is still small (less than 500 views last month) and my writing isn’t the best (though I’m trying to do more for this). So no sales, when the day does come though I will let you all know right away and will be more than excited about it.

Freelance Income $0.00

My main goal for this site is to start freelance writing, after taking a course by Melanie over at Dear Debt I have started to make some changes on my approach. I have emailed several people who I look up to that make a living freelance writing to get advice and what I have got back from them has been amazing.

I still haven’t been given a job, but I’m in hopes that it will happen sooner rather than later.

If you have any suggestions or maybe a freelance opportunity that you have please let me know by contacting me at tjphilbrook@gmail.com.

Amazon FBA Income $0.00

I didn’t mention this last month and regretted it. I started purchasing things from retail stores in my area that are on clearance and selling them on amazon. I hadn’t made any money on it last month and so completely forgot about mentioning it but I did make some sales that will be coming in for the month of February so wanted to mention them here before I forgot again.

Misc. Income $122.00

This is a bit complicated to explain and I promise to eventually but as of right now I can’t go into detail. I did however feel I needed to include this amount of income in if I was going to be open and honest with everything I bring in.

Wrap Up

My ultimate goal is to get all of these side incomes to match or surpass what is required to surpass mine and my wife’s current 9 to 5 income so the wrap up will show how close I got.

Monthly Income Needed: $3,000
Side Income Total: $ 502.21
Difference: $2,497.79

As you can clearly see I have a long long long way to go. That isn’t going to slow me down instead I look at this and see that I need to make massive changes in order to increase this income. Some of it will come from getting my real estate license and selling some houses. It will also come when I get my first freelance client and make some money that way. I can also drive a lot more in order to make up the difference. Whatever works I will become the greatest future me I know I can become.

How was your month? Did you make as much as you had anticipated? What are you going to do differently this month to make sure you become the “future me”? Commit to it now by telling us in the comments bellow.

  1. Good luck with your side income. Just remember that some people get their side income by selling “how to” kits to other people, which IMO is like the old classified ads that for $10 would tell you how to make money at home stuffing envelopes (mailing notes telling you to place a classified ad…)

    1. Yea I just keep reminding myself that it will take time before I see anything, longer really because I decided not to use Google Adsense instead to ONLY use affiliate programs.

  2. I’m on the same boat as you are, that is, no income right now from my blog. But I just keep on writing and writing because I like what I do and I hope people get to learn something out of my posts. Patience and blog content I think are keys to a successful blog. The best about blogging is that I get to write what I feel and people start to read them. That feels Good. Good luck to us. Lol
