January Income Report

Every month I will be documenting my income from all of my side hustles. As I am just starting out some (more like all) of these amounts will be very little or even nothing. In full future me style though I’m going to include things that I may not even be doing yet because I know that in the future these things will be bringing in an income.

Rideshare Income $0.00

Someday in this coming month I may get out and drive. This is a income that I’ve talked about how great it is that you don’t have to go out and drive. Well I guess I’m proving that.

I should be trying to get at least a ride a week when I’m on my way home but I often am exhausted from work and have to work on side hustles when I get home.

 Blog Income $0.00

Though I have been working on trying to get some income from the blog, and even did some advertising I haven’t seen any results yet.

I’m not that upset about it as my main source of online income will be freelancing for a while I think.

Freelance Income $193.90

My favorite type of income. Though less then Amazon FBA I enjoy this. I love being able to tell my family that I wrote an article. One of my siblings recently started talking to me about this great article they found and how helpful it was, when they told me the name I had actually written the article so it made me feel really good.

On top of that I get paid to write these articles. It’s an amazing feeling.

If you have any suggestions or maybe a freelance opportunity that you have please let me know by contacting me at tjphilbrook@IamTheFutureMe.com.

Amazon FBA Income $355.11 Cost $344.11

After my record breaking December, this is kind of a let down but there are a few factors that go into this.

First, I had run out of money in December to buy new products until the last payment came in, I then bought as quickly as I could and sent in more merchandise but it didn’t arrive till later in January.

Then there was some problems with shipments as they didn’t arrive as quickly as usual. Or, they did arrive and set at the warehouse for a week before finally posting to sell.

Once things did sell it wasn’t selling very fast, and I couldn’t figure out why. Near the end of the month sales massively picked up but that won’t be seen until February, in fact Februarys first payment as it stands now will be larger than my entire income for January.

Want to learn to sell on Amazon the same way I have? Check out The Selling Family. Cliff and Jessica are awesome.

Misc. Income $70.50

Not yet discussed on the blog entirely, this is some random low income stream that will have it’s own blog post in the future.

Wrap Up

My ultimate goal is to get all of the side income to match or surpass mine and my wife’s current 9 to 5 incomes.

Monthly Income Needed: $3,000
Side Income Total: $619.51
Difference: -$2,380.49
YOY Increase: $117.30 or 23.3%

Going from exceeding my goal to not even coming close is a huge hit. Not only that but it’s not even that much more money then last year at this time. That being said a lot happened in January that will set me up for the rest of the year and I’m really looking forward to sharing that in the months to come.

Next Month

February will be a busy month. It’s hard to believe that I’m saying this but I can’t really take on any more freelance clients until mid March as I’m working on a huge project for one of my clients.

I also have some new things coming as it pertains to this blog, as well as my email list, which you can sign up for here.

How was your month? Did you make as much as you had anticipated? What are you going to do differently this month to make sure you become the “future me”? Commit to it now by telling us in the comments bellow.

  1. You know, I started driving for Uber last month and I really liked it. The entire two weeks I’ve been home this time, my log in won’t work for Uber Driver and it’s really angered me. Uber hasn’t really been any help either. It’s a shame, since it was otherwise a really excellent side hustle for me.

    1. Mel sorry your having difficulty, you should reach out to Harry Campbell on the rideshare guy he knows pretty much everything about getting things to work.

  2. It’s great that your freelancing work is picking up and that your sibling found your article! My month was pretty good financially, and really great blog-wise. But just like you are trying to get consistent results month after month, I’m worried about keeping the blogging results up for February.

    1. Yea it was great that someone found my stuff useful and even more that it was a family member. Yea I’ve discovered that having a safety net of money saved up is going to be needed for continued self employment.

  3. The peaks and valleys in blogging are hard to ride out. (I’m only starting to really learn this!) I think it can be hard to adjust to the unsteady money when it comes to working for yourself. Another great reason to store up nuts for the lean times.

Good luck with your big project!

    1. Project is going well, not done yet but certainly getting there. Yes I’ve discovered I need to save a good amount of money if I really want to work for myself full time.

  4. That’s a bummer that the delay with your Amazon goods resulted in lower income this month.

My partner drove for Uber for awhile and enjoyed it. He would turn it on when he would go out to get a 6-pack of beer and usually it payed for his planned purchase.

    1. Yea that was one of the great things I loved about driving for them. If someone invited me to go out for lunch or dinner I could drive afterwards and make enough to pay for the meal. Amazon is going to be like that waiting for payments so I’m not worried February is already off to a great start.
