You Are Worth More Than Your Debt

This blog post is part of the Suicide Prevention Awareness Month blog tour in partnership with Debt Drop. If you are feeling suicidal, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or text HOME to 741741.

I have a great life. My wife loves me and we go on pretty amazing trips. So when Melanie asked if I would join her on the Suicide Prevention Awareness Month I thought I would have nothing to offer.

I’ve never had suicidal thoughts, never knew anyone who had committed suicide, or so I thought.

Over the last year, I’ve found that though I have never had any suicidal thoughts that those around me have.

Though I’ve never known anyone who has attempted or committed suicide many of my friends and family have.

I don’t know what to say to them, or you, but I know help is out there.

When This Became Close To Home

A very close friend once told me the problems he has gone through in his life. And how one night he considered ending it all. I was shocked, and hurt, even though this happened years before we had met.

What if he had gone through with it, what if he and I had never met? What would my life be like now?

The fun times we had wouldn’t have happened. The times he had helped me through difficult times, or when we were just hanging out eating far too much food.

I know one thing for sure, my life wouldn’t be nearly as amazing without him in it.

Finances Can Hurt More Than We Know

If you are struggling with debt you are not alone. I’ve had far too much debt for far too long and I’m tired of it.

I’ve put plans in place to help get out of debt, and things are working well for me.

But that’s not the case for everyone or everywhere.

Some live in countries where money isn’t as easy to come by as it is in the USA. As difficult as it may seem for you right now, others do have it worse financially.

I’ve heard of people committing suicide over debts less than $1000 because they felt they could never pay it off.

How much debt do you have? Are the bill collectors calling almost every day? Does it seem too much?

You Are Worth More Than Your Debt

No matter how much you owe it isn’t worth your life. You are amazing, you are wonderful, you are unique.

Even if you think you have no one to talk to, no friends, you do, or you will.

My friend and I had never met, but now I can’t go very long without talking with him.

Your best friend is maybe a day away, get the help you need to meet them.

  1. When I read that first paragraph, I was like, “But I bet you do, and you wouldn’t even know it…”

When someone comes forward with these thoughts it’s so brave on their end, and so important to be there for them. Even if they don’t come forward and you know there is strife in their life or a past depression that you assume is gone…

I’m so glad your friend stayed. I hope others stay after reading this, too.
